Liposuction

  • “Liposuction, otherwise known as lipo, is a plastic surgery procedure that aims to reshape a variety of body parts by removing fat deposits.

Usually, we use a special cannula or a tube that we insert through a small stab incision, and we suck out the fat.

Liposuction can be performed in many anatomical locations, starting with the neck, going onto the breasts, arms, abdomen, back, thighs, you name it. The whole body can essentially be recontoured using liposuction. Liposuction can be used by itself or as an adjunct to other procedures. You can combine them with a neck lift, you can combine them with abdominoplasty, with an arm lift, a thigh lift, and it really just offers that last bit of refinement in the contour and shaping.

A good candidate for liposuction is somebody who has a healthy lifestyle but has a small amount of fat or a certain amount of fat that they cannot get rid of by standard measures such as exercise and diet.

It would be a person who understands the limitations of the procedure on what can be achieved or cannot be achieved, and also someone who appreciates that no procedure comes without associated risks.

The benefit of having liposuction is that it reduces the amount of excess that can be available. Through expert hands, we can sculpt the abdomen, we can sculpt parts of the body to create a more aesthetically pleasing result. The recovery time for liposuction varies depending on how much fact has been liposuctioned and also on the area. If it's a small area, typically one would be back to normal within a couple of days. But if it's In a more extensive area, there's an element of a bit of bruising, a bit of swelling, but things tend to settle down by three months or so. Liposuction can be used to treat various conditions. For example, the simplest one or the commonest one is when somebody has a bit of excess fat that they want to have removed. Another way of using liposuction typically is to use it with correction of gynaecomastia, or otherwise known as man boobs. If a person has too much fat in the chest area, liposuction can also be used in the correction of lymphedema. This is where there's excess fluid that builds up in the legs and in the limbs. Another use of using liposuction is especially to recreate a more aesthetically pleasing appearance of somebody's chest or abdomen.
