Breast Augmentation

  • “Breast augmentation is also known as augmentation mammoplasty, and to normal people, it is known as a boob job.

It improves the appearance of the breasts. Very often patients come in and complain that they have smaller breasts or when they wear a crop top, they want a bit of more cleavage, which improves their feminine appearance. One of the benefits that many of our patients might describe is having an improved or boost in their confidence level. Often we find that our patients would come in who had previously been flat chested or had smaller breasts. After their breast augmentation, they are more outgoing, they feel very confident in themselves, and they find that their clothes fit themselves better. This can be achieved using either breast implants or fat transfer. In terms of breast implants, the breast implant can be either filled with saline or is filled with gel.

In terms the implant itself, you can choose a round implant, an anatomical or teardrop-shaped implant, but this will depend on your clinical assessment and what is it that you actually need in terms of the outcome.

Another way of enhancing or increasing the size of our breast is to use fat transfer. Normally, we would harvest the fat from one part of the body and then inject it into the breast.

In terms of choosing between the two options, it depends on what is it that the patient desires to achieve and what is their starting point. If someone wants just a very small, natural-looking uplift, then fat transfer could well be suitable for them. While through breast augmentation, we generally aim to increase the size of the breasts and to improve the appearance of one's cleavage and neckline. However, it can be a really useful procedure in order to address asymmetrical breasts. Combining implants as well as fat transfer can, in fact, help achieve an even better result in these situations.

A good candidate for somebody who wants to have a breast augmentation is a patient who wants to improve the aesthetic and function of their breasts. Often it is patients who have smaller breasts, who want to have bigger breasts to boost up their confidence, improve their feminine appearance, and ensure that they feel good in themselves.

A good candidate is one who understands the benefits and the risks of the operation, one who has realistic expectations of what surgery can achieve.

Typically, we would tell patients that a breast augmentation lasts up to about 10 years. This is the warranty that the companies would normally give on their breast implant. Having said that, there are patients who have a healthy lifestyle, good quality skin, good genetics, which means that their implant may last much longer than that.

In terms of recovery period, I always tell the patients that your wounds should be healed within two weeks from surgery in absence of any complications or adverse events. I ask my patients to refrain from any strenuous physical activity for a minimum of 6-8 weeks in order to let the breasts settle, to let the implants find their pocket and to stay in.

Breast augmentation can be a life-changing procedure which will greatly boost your confidence and your appearance. If you're interested in having breast augmentation, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our team at Emendo Surgical Group, and we would be delighted to see you.”
